Elevate your space with a stunning piece of living history. This exceptional, oversized earthenware vessel is a magnificent example of traditional East African pottery, sourced from Uganda. Handcrafted using centuries-old techniques, this robust pot bridges the gap between a historical ethnographic artifact and soulful, collected decor.

In the Great Lakes region of East Africa, large, bulbous clay vessels like this one served a vital role in communal and domestic daily life. Master potters, primarily women, crafted these vessels entirely by hand using the coil-building technique, meticulously shaping the clay without the use of a potter’s wheel.

Historically used for fermenting and storing traditional sorghum or millet beers (bushera) and for preserving water, these pots feature rounded bases designed to nestle into earthen floors. Included with this piece is a traditional fiber ring stand, ensuring that it sits securely on modern hard flooring.
