This hand-carved milk bowl from the Tuareg tribespeople of Africa is a rare and unique find. Its aged patina and intricate details suggest that it dates back to the mid-20th century. In Tuareg culture, which is largely matrilineal, women hold high status and enjoy significant freedom within the tribe. They actively participate in family and tribal decisions. Wooden milk bowls, like this one, are highly prized possessions of Tuareg women and are often passed down from one generation to the next. These bowls are repaired and reused over time. In addition to being used for practical purposes, they are also collected by women as status symbols and decorative objects to be displayed in their tents or huts.
This milk bowl, hand-carved by the Tuareg people, is an antique item that features circular stripes and a unique geometric pattern carved and engraved on its exterior. It boasts a beautiful dark patina and shows significant signs of wear from being used for many years, including tribal repairs. These repairs involve the use of handmade brass bars with nails to fix cracks, as well as a plant resin and soil mixture that was used like a glue to fill in gaps.
This Vintage African bowl can add a unique and striking element to any room in your home. A rare piece like this one would make a bold statement no matter where it is displayed.
